The Story of Hermitage Castelo

Our journey began in 2014 during a weekend in Lisbon, when Katarina and I fell in love with this enchanting city. Lisbon’s unique charm—its vibrant yet tranquil rhythm, the dazzling colors, the luminous Atlantic light accompanied by the scent of iodine and the calls of seagulls, and above all, the warmth and courtesy of its people—captivated us completely. After years of living in France, Brazil, and Sri Lanka, we decided to make Lisbon our home without hesitation.

At Hermitage Castelo, our mission is to offer guests an authentic experience that mirrors the essence of local life, allowing them to feel like true Lisbon residents. To achieve this, we carefully restore historic buildings located in some of the most iconic neighborhoods of the city’s center. Working closely with the National Cabinet for Cultural Heritage, we ensure that each restoration respects the architectural and historical integrity of the properties while incorporating modern comforts for our guests.

Preservation is at the heart of what we do. Each flat retains its original layout, meticulously restored with an eye for detail. From the finest bedding and luxurious linens to thoughtfully curated interior decor, every aspect is designed with the same care as if we were preparing to live there ourselves.

Our goal is to immerse our guests in the soul of Lisbon, offering accommodations that embody the city’s spirit and character.

Environmental sustainability is another pillar of our philosophy. We use only eco-friendly, non-polluting products for amenities and daily cleaning, ensuring that our practices minimize ecological impact and contribute to the protection of our planet.
